A parish council is a civil local authority found in England and is the lowest, or first, tier of local government. They are elected corporate bodies, have variable tax raising powers, and are responsible for areas known as civil parishes. The Parish Council has the power to charge a tax or precept on its community and households, enabling the Council to carry out various duties during the financial year.

Parish Councils must be notified of, and display for residents, any planning applications for the area. Any comments submitted to the planning authority by the parish council must be taken into account. The parish council does NOT determine planning applications, this is the duty of the Tewkesbury Borough Council.

During the financial year the parish council helps to maintain our playing field and playground; looks after the fabric of the village hall; employs an ‘up-keep’ man to mow areas around the village and provides dog and litter bins.

The above is just a small part of the duties the parish council has and is required to carry out. If you want further information CONTACT US
